Specialised in interventional cardiology. Trained in echocardiology focusing on 2D echo, treadmill stress echo, dobutamine stress echo and transesophageal echocardiology. Experienced in performing stenting of the left main artery and chronic total occlusion, and managing complex cases in patients who have declined or are unsuitable for bypass surgery.

Dr Stanley Chia is an experienced Interventional Cardiologist and Physician with expertise in managing complex coronary artery disease and a variety of cardiovascular conditions.

Dr Chia has a distinguished academic record. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, United Kingdom and was awarded multiple distinctions and prizes in his undergraduate studies. He graduated with honours as one of the top students in 1997 and obtained the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MB ChB. He was accepted into the competitive Southeast of Scotland Medical Rotation Program and underwent general medical training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He passed his postgraduate medical examinations within 3 years after graduation and was accepted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh in 2000. He was subsequently awarded the British Heart Foundation Scholarship Scheme and Junior Research Fellowship to undertake cardiovascular medicine research in a Doctorate program at the University of Edinburgh from 2000 – 2002 under the supervision of Professor Keith Fox and Professor David Newby. His innovative research on inflammation in cardiovascular disease was presented at the prestigious British Cardiac Society Young Research Worker’s Prize. For his doctoral thesis on “Endothelial Function and Inflammation”, he has conferred the title of Doctor of Medicine, MD in 2006.

Dr Chia completed his cardiology advanced speciality training at the National Heart Centre Singapore and has been certified as a Specialist in Cardiology since 2006. He was subsequently awarded the National Medical Research Council Medical Research Fellowship as well as the Health Manpower Development Program Award from the Ministry of Health to undertake further specialized training in Interventional Cardiology. He was a research fellow at Harvard Medical School and interventional cardiology fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, the United States of America from 2006 – 2008. During this period, he worked with eminent researchers and pioneers in interventional cardiology such as Harvard professors, Dr Igor Palacios and Dr Ik-Kyung Jang. He presented and published his research on advanced intravascular imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography that provided insight into the development of coronary artery disease. He further developed his clinical expertise in interventional cardiology and specialized in structural heart and coronary interventional procedures. Prior to leaving for private practice, he was a Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist at the National Heart Centre Singapore and performed more than 600 invasive coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention procedures each year. He was concurrently a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Medicine and Program Director of the Cardiology Residency Program. He is a highly skilled interventional cardiologist experienced in managing complex cardiovascular disease and difficult coronary interventional procedures, such as left main disease, chronic total occlusion and calcified lesions. He specializes in performing coronary angiography and intervention using both the radial artery and femoral approaches. He is an expert in using intravascular imaging, optical coherence tomography imaging, rotational atherectomy and complex bifurcation intervention techniques. He frequently shares his clinical and research experience on coronary intervention at international meetings.

Dr Chia made significant contributions to cardiology education and training. Formerly a member of the National Medical Research Council Scientific Review Panel, he is now deputy chairman of the SingHealth Institution Research Ethics Committee. He has published extensively on cardiovascular research in international peer-reviewed journals. He continues to play a major role in organizing and speaking at numerous international and local cardiology conferences. Dr Chia is passionate about raising public awareness of the cardiac disease. He has given many talks and interviews on cardiovascular disease in both English and Chinese language on television, radio as well as public forums in Singapore and overseas.
Dr Chia is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore since 2006. In recognition of his clinical and research excellence, he has been elected to Fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology.

Dr Chia currently practices at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and Gleneagles Medical Centre. He is also a visiting consultant at National Heart Centre Singapore, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Parkway East Hospital and Mount Alvernia Hospital.
