Dr Ngim You Siang graduated from University of Malaya in 2006 and subsequently obtained his Master
of Ophthalmology from the same university. He is a gazetted eye specialist by Ministry of Health (MOH)
and registered under National Specialist Register (NSR) Malaysia.
Since 2009, Dr Ngim had served in the Department of Ophthalmology in Hospital Pakar Sultanah
Fatimah Muar, Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru and University of Malaya. Besides treating
common eye diseases such as Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-related Macular
Degeneration and others in his day-to-day practice, he particularly believes in prevention and treating
his patient as a whole. Being fluent in Mandarin, Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, English and Malay, he is
willing to spend extra minutes with patients to educate them and prevent avoidable blindness.
Being an eye specialist is one of the dreams come true for Dr Ngim. Inspired by Orbis Flying Eye Hospital
in the late 1990s, Dr Ngim had made up his mind to become an eye doctor during his secondary school
years then. During his medical student days in University of Malaya, he participated in a voluntary
reader program to assist fellow visually impaired students from various faculties for 5 years. With this
experience, he has more empathy towards blind patients in his clinical practice and this is what made
him different from other ophthalmologists.
Dr Ngim is married to a very supportive paediatrician wife with 3 kids. He is a Muarian and is currently
based in Optimax Muar branch.
Dr Ngim is currently based at the Optimax Eye Specialist Centre in Muar and visits Segamat.
